Something More

Something More

“Seagulls in Flight,” photograph by David Brown

Something more…personal growth sometimes feels like going into the unknown…something challenging, something intriguing…something more.

“Jonathan Livingston Seagull, unashamed, stretching his wings again in that trembling hard curve–slowing, slowing, and stalling once more–was no ordinary bird.” (Excerpt taken from the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach)

Have you given much thought about what you want out of life?  Your limits; what you are capable of?  What if you dared to go beyond…to find something more? These are pretty challenging questions I know.  We all have various roles that we play in our daily lives.  The demands of each day cannot be set aside, and we must tend to them. We go about fulfilling the tasks at hand sometimes automatically, with little effort or thought put into each activity.  Before we know it, the sun has set, night has fallen, and a new day is on the horizon….with its own set of challenges.  How can we possibly go beyond all of that? Searching for something, not sure what I’ll find…

Searching

I’m searching for something,

I’m not sure what I’ll find.

Could it be way into my future?

Or what I’ve simply left behind? Continue reading

A Quote to Carry You – February 24, 2014

A quote to carry you - february 24, 2014A Quote to Carry You

February 24, 2014

“Sometimes it is in the losing your way that you find your true self.” (paraphrased)

This quote has meant different things to me at different times.  In most cases, I’ve identified with it just as it is written; the meaning is clearly and obviously presented.  At other times, my focus has been keenly on the losing part.

Peace,

Felecia

When the Enemy Strikes

When the Enemy Strikes

“A Winter Freeze,” photograph by Martin Watson

When the enemy strikes…how do you win the battle?

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.  You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.” Psalm 138:7

The word enemy is defined as someone who hates another or something that harms or threatens someone or something.  With such a sobering definition, having an enemy is a foreboding prospect.  I doubt that anyone welcomes the thought of having an enemy, but there are times when I feel that I am being attacked by all sorts of “enemies” from every direction in life. The Tempter

The Tempter

The Tempter…seductive, alluring, he’s familiar to all; watch your step, be on guard, he may cause you to fall…

The Tempter

His motives are dark, insidious and mean,

he tempts us, he tricks us,

yet he’s not visibly seen.

He’s crafty, he’s clever,

who’d claim him a friend? Continue reading

A Quote to Carry You – February 17, 2014

A quote to carry youA Quote to Carry You

“The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.” Abraham Lincoln

Can an enemy become a friend?  When I first read this quote, I didn’t think much of it.  Reading it a second time, however, I realized how easily this advice can be applied to any adversity in life.    When we embrace the difficulties that come our way, and transform them from being hindrances into welcomed opportunities…well, they may become some of the strongest “friends” we have.

Face your challenges with a welcoming calmness…you may be surprised at how amiable the end results turn out to be.

Peace,

Felecia

Show Me Your Love

Show Me Your love

Show Me Your Love…and when you do, what will it look like?

When I wrote this poem, it wasn’t directed at one person, but it spoke to a host of feelings that I’ve experienced over my many years.  The intimacy of love of any kind, whether it be between lovers or the best of plutonic friends, is such an overwhelming thing.  I believe that love is an absolute necessity for every life, yet it is one emotion that can be the most difficult to master…when giving and receiving it. What’s in a word? – Embrace

What's in a word? - Embrace

“The Burial of Atala” (Detail), 1946, Jean Baptiste Raphael Urbain Massard, after Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson. Image (excerpt) from a page of the 2014 Desk Calendar, courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store

What’s in a word? – Embrace

Hold tightly, hug, intensity, anguish, security, arms, enveloped, loved, tenderly, sucked in, melt, passion, eternal, heart-felt, mmmmmmm…

What is in this word for you?  Do tell me, please.

It is a comfortable place to be in the embrace of another…try it for yourself…give someone a hug today!

Love,

Felecia
