In the Quiet of the Night

In the quiet of the night – through its stillness shone a light…

”While shepherds kept their watching O’er silent flocks by night, behold throughout the heavens, there shone a heavenly light.” (excerpt taken from the lyrics of the song “Go Tell it on the Mountain,” by John Wesley Work, Jr.)

In the Quiet of the Night

In the quiet of the night,

Throught its stillness shone a light.

So wondrously did it glow,

A beacon to the world did it show.

In the quiet of the night,

The shepherds gathered, not in fright.

The angels sang songs full of glory;

For through the babe, God will complete his story.

In the quiet of the night,

Our hearts are filled with delight.

Our Savior has come…death has lost its hold.

His truth continues to save, just as it was foretold.

In the quiet of the night – sometimes the most amazing things happen during the wee hours of the night.

Picture it, the most unassuming scene.  A newly born baby wrapped is scraps of cloths, placed delicately upon the rough surface of wood and straw used as a makeshift cradle.  The flickering flames of a hastily built fire, projects a glowing light that fills the sky.  The look of uncertainty that adorns the young mother’s face as, little by little, the tiny stall becomes the stage for the greatest miracle of all time.  It is played out right before the eyes of the shepherds and livestock that had gathered to see it.

”The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). —Matthew 1:23

In the quiet of the night – God came down to us.  Jesus Christ, our “Immanuel,” came down to earth, “…and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14).  It is hard to comprehend, even in this modern age that we live in, that such an awesome event could take place in such a humble way.  Unlike the clatter of being under the brightness of the noonday sun, the Savior of the world chose to enter it inconspicuously…yet the glory of that moment still illuminates the world.

May you celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in the quiet of your heart, and let his light shine brilliantly through you to others.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful Christmas.

Peace and love,

Felecia

It’s Like a Whisper

It’s like a whisper

It’s Like a Whisper – the wind rustling through bare branches, the hushed tones of footprints in the snow…

”O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?” —Percy Bysshe Shelley

It’s Like a Whisper

It’s like a whisper,

The wind rustling through bare branches,

The hushed tones of footprints in the snow.

Winter’s voice…in the night is crystal clear;

Its chill stings the body from head to toe.

It’s like a whisper,

One can sense the heaviness in the air,

Green leaves turn to orange, yellow and brown,

No signs of life; all that was bright has faded away.

Winter’s howl beckons the respect of a crown.

It’s like a whisper,

Tiny, glistening snowflakes fall, hardly making a sound.

The cold has settled in, long nights linger on;

As winter’s white blanket covers the ground.

Felecia R. Weber 2018, www.OntheWingofaDove.com

It’s like a whisper – Indeed winter is here!  Living in northwestern Pennsylvania will almost guarantee a long, cold season.  Just thinking about the lake effect snow sends a shiver up my spine!  Although I am not fond of the harsh weather that can make the next few months difficult to maneuver, winter does offer us a quiet kind of beauty…

”Even in winter an isolated patch of snow has a special quality.” —Andy Goldworthy

So far, we’ve had a least three heavy snowfalls here over the past month.  On those dark mornings, I was awakened by the delicate tapping of wind-strewn snowflakes on my bedroom windows.  When I peered into the night, through still sleep-filled eyes, indeed the scene was like a whisper.  The wind played a low, whirl of a melody, causing the bluster of snow to dance every which way in the air.  The glistening, white mounds grew silently, as the snow covered everything on the ground with it’s pristine shimmer.  What a sight to behold…truly a winter wonder…until I had to get out there and shovel the drive way!

May winter whisper a tale of beauty in your ears, and fill your eyes with magical delights…enjoy!

Peace and love,

There is Nothing You Lack

There is Nothing You Lack

There is nothing you lack – our “wants” far outweigh our “needs” and our appetite for more is never satiated!

”When you realize that what you have is indeed enough…there is nothing you lack.”  Felecia R. Weber 2018, www.OntheWingofaDove.com

There is Nothing You Lack

As seasons change, our lives do too…

Some for the better, some for the worse.

Many times we strive to go forward,

But winds of time blow us back in reverse.

No matter how far off course the road may lead,

There is always a chance to make it back.

Keep on striving, when you fall get right back up,

In time you’ll see, there is nothing you lack.

Felecia R. Weber 2018, www.OntheWingofaDove.com

There is nothing you lack – That’s an odd thing to say, especially while living in a world where the jar always seems to be half empty.  Bigger, better, faster, brighter…the list goes on and on.  Our “wants” far outweigh our “needs” and our appetite for more is never satiated.

“When you realize that what you have is indeed enough…there is nothing you lack.”

When the seasons of life lead you to the point of seeing the proverbial jar as half full and you see no need to fill it anymore…that is when you’ve learned the value of appreciating what you have and being content with it.  More is not necessarily better.  Remember, the more you have, the more you have to take care of.  In fact, I’ve learned that less is more…

“The important thing is not the quantity, but the quality of what you have that makes all the difference.

I’ve lived “out of a suitcase” for a good part of the past two years.  During that time, I’ve certainly learned what is essential for my daily living and what is dispensable.  I’ve realized that, in most cases, having more than what I require can actually be more of a hindrance that a help.  My jar is not nearly as full as it used to be, but I have all that I need…there is nothing I lack.

How about you?  Do you have more than you truly need?  Do you find yourself worrying about your possessions more than those things that really matter in life?  These are questions that you might consider…do you have all you truly need or is there something you lack?

Felecia

Every Shade is Beautiful

Every shade is beautiful

Every Shade is Beautiful – Photograph courtesy of Gail_m

Every shade is beautiful – unique in its own hue, but what lies below the surface…that’s what makes you, you!

”Beauty is the illumination of the soul.”  —John O’Donohue

Every Shade is Beautiful

Every shade is beautiful,

No matter the color or hue.

The outer wrapping is just a layer,

The real treasure is hidden from view.

Every shade is beautiful,

Red, yellow, white and black.

No two persons are just alike;

Each one has a uniqueness to unpack.

Every shade is beautiful,

It’s yours, one only you can define.

The world sees only one dimension…

So let your own brightness shine!

Felecia R. Weber 2018, www.OntheWingofaDove.com

Every shade is beautiful – Even though autumn signals the fading away of sunny, summer flowers and lush green vegetation, it is also a season full of colorful vibrancy!  Taking in the crisp hues of red, brown, orange and gold that paint the leaves still dangling from the trees and the hearty harvest of pumpkins and gourds, I can’t help but think of how stunning are the shades of the peoples of the world…everyone as lovely as the next!

There is no question that it’s the breathtaking variety of colors that make autumn such a delightful treat for our eyes.  I beleive, though, that there is so much more to the season that warms our hearts.  The same can be said of people…for our beauty is not simply skin deep.  Indeed, every shade is beautiful, unique in its own hue, but what lies below the surface…that’s what makes you, you!

Peace and love,

Felecia

Be Still

Be Still – Photograph courtesy of Gail_m

Be Still in the moment, in the quiet dream…

“Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

Be Still

Be still in the moment

In the quiet…dream

Keep your heart open,

Thoughts flowing like a stream.

Be still and know,

That God is right there,

He’ll never leave you…

He’s your help with all you bear.

Be still and listen,

He’s got so much to say…

Tune out all that is around you,

Let Him guide you…he’ll show you the way.

Felecia R. Weber, OntheWingofaDove.com 2018

This morning I woke up with a calmness that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I took the time to just be still.  With my thoughts focused on God, the words from Psalm 46:10, “ Be still and know that I am God,” filled my mind and heart.

It is rare that I get the chance just to sit and be still…but when I took the opportunity to do just that, I can hardly describe the peace that I felt.  What a treasure it is to take the time to come before the Lord and feel his presence surround you.  [It’s as if the world fades to gray and God’s light shines in and through you.  He blankets his arms around you and the warmth of his love cause you to glow.

Why not give it a try…now.  Close your eyes, breath deeply; be still.  Now contemplate for yourself, the wonder of God’s love, his provision…his will.

Peace and love,

Felecia

All I Ever Wanted

all I ever wanted

Photograph courtesy of Martin Watson

All I ever wanted – how can I describe it with words…

“Sometimes life fills you with the thing that you’ve longed for the most…when you finally have it, how is it that you ever lived without it?”  Felecia R. Weber

All I Ever Wanted

All I ever wanted;

How can I describe it with words?

You can’t capture the beautiful simplicity of a clear blue sky, and trap it inside a bottle…for it is too vast to be harnessed, it is the essence of freedom.

All I ever wanted;

What is it about finally having it that makes your life seem like someone suddenly unveiled the most exquisite painting…the kind that invites you to step right into its beckoning magnificence.

All I ever wanted;

It is an amazing thing that happens when what your heart craves is not simply a fleeting desire, not just a moment in time…rather, it is something that is so essential it becomes a part of you.

Felecia R. Weber 2016, OntheWingofaDove.com

When you receive the thing that you’ve longed for, when it unfolds before your very eyes…it shakes your world like a violent storm.  Yet the calmness, the peace, the wholeness that follows, is like the freshness of a dew soaked meadow…it waters your soul, continuously.

Peace and love,

Felecia

For Those Who Walk Alone

those who walk alone

For those who walk alone – a poem dedicated in celebration of my precious one’s birthday, February 9th…Happy Birthday Steve…I will always love you.

For Those Who Walk Alone

For those who walk alone,

There is a privilege, grace and power.

Our strength has no limits, our wisdom abounds…

We walk in a realm all our own.

For those who walk alone,

It’s not a life to be pitied or unnoticed.

Our tears never weigh us down,

They cleanse our hearts, to enable a new harvest to grow.

For those who walk alone,

Remember always, you are never alone truly,

For although God walks with us, side by side,

He was there in the past behind us…and tomorrow, He is already there.

Felecia R. Weber 2016, OntheWingofaDove.com

One of the most powerful memories that I have of my late husband happened on the night that he passed.  It seemed he’d been in dreamlike state throughout that day.  Amazingly, he walked around the house, up and down the stairs, traveled in the car to his doctor’s office for hydration, just like a “normal” day in his life as a cancer patient.  He was his usual soft spoken, good-natured, courteous self.  I knew in my heart that indeed that could be his last day here with us on earth, but it seemed like he was already somewhere between here and heaven.

As you can imagine, by that stage, the disease had taken its horrible toll on him.  He had wasted away to only a shadow of the man he’d always been.  That late afternoon, however, as he rested. stretched out on the bed in the haze of the dimming sunlight, there was a wholeness and serenity to him that I’ll never forget.  As he lay quietly on the bed, he stretched out his left arm and held it there for a long while.  He wore a slight smile on his face.  All I could imagine is that he was being gently ushered into his true home, to be with our lord.  As I stood next to the bed just gazing upon that peaceful sight, I closed my eyes, and through the lenses of hope and truth, I could see my Stephen, confidently walking toward the light, toward our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now as I continue to walk alone, here on earth, I replay that image in my mind…what calmness, what peace…what a treasure our Lord is for those who walk alone.

“However, as it is written:  ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human has conceived’ – the things God has prepared for those who love him.”  1 Corinthians 2:9

Peace and love,

Felecia

On Possibilites

On Possibilities

on possibilitiesA Quote to Carry You

October 26, 2015

“I dwell in possibilities” Emily Dickinson

On possibilities – Possibilities are endless, they come in all shapes and sizes, in all colors, and in all forms.  When I think of possibilities, I often think of them in terms of creativity.  When I dream of an idea for creating an item for my budding line of handmade gifts, it is amazing how a single element, such as the texture of a swatch of fabric opens the door for a multitude of possibilities on how to incorporate it’s uniqueness into one of my products.  Before I know it, my head is swimming with all kinds of lovely conceptualizations for intricate and elegant designs for my novelties.  For me, such possibilities have a way of kindling my creative fire…sometimes its blaze far exceeds my own expectations.  When it comes to creativity, possibilities are essential!

How about you, why not reach out and grab hold of your creative possibilities?  Let them pour out of you like a stream of gifts.  May they spill over into the lives of those around you spawning possibilities for them too…like gifts that keep on giving.

Peace and love,

Felecia
