The Gift of Art

The Gift of Art…my art is my gift to you.

My relationship with my own art has been “on again, off again” for the past several years.  I’ve had periods of time when I’ve leaped into that creative world full force, exhibiting my work, taking on commissions, drawing just for my own pleasure.  There have also been times when I’ve quietly stepped aside and closed the door behind me, not wanting even to look at my drawing board, let alone pick it up and start sketching.

Gratefully, I have been blessed with other talents and abilities that satisfy my creative hunger in unique ways.My love for writing, art modeling, ballet and modern dance, music appreciation and classic literature have all played a tremendous part in keeping me inspired artistically.  It seems that no matter how long I stay away from my drawing board, dabbling in these other creative outlets inevitably sparks the flame that sets my desire to draw ablaze again.

When I draw, I do seem to enter a private world of my own and I am completely absorbed within in it.  The blank sheet of paper is transformed, stroke by stroke, into my own interpretation of what lies before my eyes.  The cold, wet nose of a curious puppy; the pale, delicate silkiness of a dew-kissed rose petal; or the intensity and elation that exudes from a dancer leaping across the stage.  When I sign my name to the finished piece, I feel as though I am actually a part of each image that stares back at me.

Whether I am “on again” or “off again” in my relationship with my art, I do recognize it as a gift.  It is a gift that I have not only received, but one that I give to others…my gift to you.

Peace and love,

Felecia
