Making a Difference

Making a Difference

Making a difference in the lives of others, can make a difference in our lives too.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.  It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am a “doer.” If you were to walk along side of me in a day in my life, you’d quickly realize that I rarely  sit still.  If  my body is not in motion, my mind is running at full throttle.  If I am not focused intensely on something that I am working out in my mind, you can bet I am multi-tasking; juggling as many activities at once as I can.  I am constantly thinking ahead.  When my head hits the pillow at the end of the night, or many times in the wee hours of the morning, my sleep is filled with dreams.  What is it that keeps me “on” so much of the time?  Does all of this busyness make a difference? Laugh!

Laugh!

“Curious Puppy,” meet Halo Rose, our sweet little friend who belongs to our dear friends Dick & Marilyn Hill. This photo was taken during the first of many of her excursions in the snow.

Laugh a little or a lot…but do it often; it’s good for the soul!

“A  joyful heart is good medicine…” Proverbs 17:22

Laugh!

Do it a little, or do it a lot,

Laugh!

“Gotcha!” Halo wrestling with her big sister Penny Sparkle”…I think she won!

sometimes a good laugh just hits the spot!

Life can be serious, wearisome, and a bore.

A chuckle can brighten and so much more!

Those silly things that cause you to smile,

can make all of the difference, and keep you happy for a while.

Go on have a laugh, it is good for your soul.

Laugh!

“Mommy’s Little Helper,” Halo’s days are not all play…she helps out whenever she can!

And when you are broken, it’s  the glue that makes you whole.

A hearty laugh cheers you when you are blue.

A smile is contagious, see for yourself …find out if it’s true.

A Happy Day to you!

Felecia

Laugh!

“Naptime,” Halo taking a snooze…dreaming up more mischief perhaps? 🙂

Searching for something, not sure what I’ll find…

Searching

I’m searching for something,

I’m not sure what I’ll find.

Could it be way into my future?

Or what I’ve simply left behind? Continue reading

When the Enemy Strikes

When the Enemy Strikes

“A Winter Freeze,” photograph by Martin Watson

When the enemy strikes…how do you win the battle?

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.  You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.” Psalm 138:7

The word enemy is defined as someone who hates another or something that harms or threatens someone or something.  With such a sobering definition, having an enemy is a foreboding prospect.  I doubt that anyone welcomes the thought of having an enemy, but there are times when I feel that I am being attacked by all sorts of “enemies” from every direction in life. The Tempter

The Tempter

The Tempter…seductive, alluring, he’s familiar to all; watch your step, be on guard, he may cause you to fall…

The Tempter

His motives are dark, insidious and mean,

he tempts us, he tricks us,

yet he’s not visibly seen.

He’s crafty, he’s clever,

who’d claim him a friend? Continue reading

My Dreams, My Journey

My Dreams, My Journey

“The Octopus,” 1912, Alvin Langdon Coburn. Image taken from a page of the 2011 Desk Calendar, courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store

My dreams, my journey…traveling through life is quite an adventure.

Sometimes life can feel like a journey.  With no map to guide us, it is surprisingly easy to get off the beaten path, and end up heading in an entirely new direction.  I must admit that I have a terrible sense of direction…just ask anyone who knows me personally and they will confirm that to be true.  I couldn’t tell you whether I am heading east or west, north or south, to save my life!  Whenever I plan to travel to some place new, I make certain that I have a map, written directions, and GPS readily on hand to get me there.  When traveling along the road of life, however, there is no compass, there are no street signs, there may even be a few detours, which can be much harder to navigate.  So what is it that guides us?  How do we find our way?

“Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

For me, it seems I travel my life’s journey even in my sleep.  I have a recurring dream that crept into my slumber just recently.  I am in my car driving to work, motoring along on my usual route.  As I proceed,  I notice that the road is getting progressively narrow, and the smooth surface of the asphalt is getting rougher and rockier…before I know it the road is littered with stones; some as large as boulders!  At this point, my vehicle is now a bicycle which I am frantically pedaling for fear I will be late for work.  I am not alone on the road at this point as now there is a little girl, also on a bicycle, weaving back and forth along the path in front of me.  She gets so close sometimes that I think I’ll topple over her.  Finally I step off of my bike and wheel it along side of me, all the while the little girl laces her jagged string of distractions closer and tighter around me.  I keep trudging along for a while in this manner, trying to avoid her.  Suddenly the little girl disappears, trailing off onto some discreet trail. The rocky road ends  and before me is a huge majestic view of a never-ending valley.

That dream varies here and there whenever I dream it, but the feeling that I have when I awaken from it is always the same.  I have this overwhelming sense of lightness of being and an excitement that makes me want to jump out of bed and start afresh.  What lies in the hours ahead of me beckons me as if I am about to embark on a new journey….a wonderful adventure!  Certainly I have an idea of what the day before me holds, the things that make up my daily routine.  But like the little girl in my dream who keeps seemingly to get in the way of my travels, the challenges and surprises that will surely cause me to alter my normal route, often times are the very things that lead to the best destination for me.  The way is not always clear, the mode of transportation from one interruption to the next frustration may not always be ideal. One thing is for sure, holding on tightly to the reigns of what God has revealed to me and continually treading forward in that, I know that I will get to where I need to be each step of the way.

How about you? As you look back at the souvenirs of your life’s journey so far, remembering the paths that have led to where you are now…what is it that has brought you there; where will your journey take you?

Peace,

Felecia

It’s All Right

It's All Right

“After the Ball,” (Detail), 1874, Alfred Stevens. Image from a page of the 2014 Desk Calendar, courtesy of The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store

It’s all right…when we feel vulnerable, when we are afraid or just unsure; that is when we can become the most secure.

A  mental image came to mind when I was singing praises during our worship time at a recent church service.  I can’t quite remember now what it was in the songs that made me think of it; perhaps I was just feeling a little misunderstood and insecure that morning.  We all have days and periods in our lives when we are just not at our best.  When those times come, I feel anything but “all right.”

My faith in God and my eternal salvation are the most important things in the world to me..for without that hope, that truth, I am nothing.  At the same time, I am in this world and I live my life uniquely.  I interpret the world through my own vision, and what I see is filtered through the eyes of the abiding love that God showers upon me.  Still, I don’t always make the right choices. I make mistakes everyday.  Sometimes I feel so lost and so not knowing what to do…so not “all right.”

Whenever I feel vulnerable and insecure, the same mental image plays over in my mind; as if I am watching a movie.  I am on a stage, like an actress playing the part of that moment in my life.  I tremble as I peer out into the audience, until my eyes search out the familiar faces of my family and friends clapping, cheering me on and mouthing the words,”You’re doing fine!” and “We love you!”  That same image played out in my mind on that Sunday morning, but the face that I saw in the audience was that of Jesus…and he said, “I love you no matter what.  I will never leave you, nor forsake you.  Abide in me and I will abide in you.  For I have already paid the price. Indeed, when I focus on these promises, it is then that I know, it’s all right.

“Here is what I am commanding you to do.  Be strong and brave.  Do not be terrified.  Do not lose hope.  I am the Lord your God.  I will be with you everywhere you go.” Joshua 1:9

Peace,

Felecia

Never Alone

Never Alone

“First Steps,” graphite pencil drawing by Felecia R. Weber, OntheWingofaDove.com

Never Alone

There may be times when I am so afraid;

when I’ve become paralyzed with fear…

But, I am never alone.

There may be  times when I have blown it;

when I’ve truly let myself down…

But, I am never alone.

There may be times when I feel lost;

when I cannot seem to find my way…

But I am never alone.

There may be times when it seems to me,

that God is no longer there,

But, this I know for certain…

it is during all of those times He is right by my side.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you.  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Life can present so many challenges that frighten us.  Fear of the unknown, can cause so much anxiety that it can threaten to invade our very core.  We need only to take a moment to look around us and realize that we never need to despair.  God is greater than any obstacle that can force its way into our path, and He promises to be with us every step of our life’s journey.  It’s up to us whether or not we choose to step out on our own, or invite Him to travel with us.

Peace and love,

Felecia
