Music, indeed it’s good for my soul…

Cello music instrument

“I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music.  It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain.  Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.” George Eliot

Music, it gets into my soul…

Out of all of the genres of music, classical, especially the rich, eloquent sound of a baroque era adagio, stirs my being the most.  Oh what emotions clamor and peak, when the intense mingling of the strings of violins and cellos being beautifully played, filter through to my heart!  When I nestle down before my drawing board, I almost instinctively surround the room with the sweet allure of Handel’s “Musette”.  Later, when I become thoroughly  absorbed into my work, my ears follow the quiet and painful journey from start to spectacular finish, of the first movement of my favorite piece by Gorecki, “Symphony No. 3”.  Sometimes I  follow that path several times, because I totally lose myself in the richness of sound…it takes awhile before I find my way back to the familiar territory of my sketch pad.  By then, it’s time for a bit of Copland.  “The Tender Land” has a way of twining itself around my head, and my body inevitably follows…before I know it I am swaying to that beautiful melody, eyes closed, off to another place.
Indeed, I do love the way music filters deep into the crevices of my soul.  Its roots spread so deeply that sometimes the piece lingers and plays in my mind  long after the track has stopped… like a private concert being performed just for me.

To all of the incredible composers past, present and future…thank you!

I dedicate this post to my good friend Ray (The Musical Poet), for his wonderful contribution to the world of music.

Thanks Mom! Art and music are two things that touch me deeply and inspire me in ways few other things can. I truly cannot imagine how dim my life would be without either.
        My love,

Beautiful post! Thank you for the shout out. I could not imagine a day going by where I don’t get to play my guitar and/or piano!

Thanks so much Ray! It is people like you, those who “live their passions” that inspire me…that feed my creativity. We had the pleasure of enjoying, impromptu, a recital given by David, a young high school graduate this evening. To my delight, he played the cello!…quite beautifully I might add. I couldn’t help but to think of my blog post…my cello drawing; the name “David” (the same as King David, the author of Psalm 55:6)…I felt connected and blessed by it all. Just another example of how music plays such an important part in my daily life.

      Peace and love,
      Felecia

A perfect combination for me is gardening and music. The two transport me to my own world devoid of all thoughts except the need to create beauty as I see fit.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, Linda…I keep an old tape recorder (gosh I feel ancient saying tape recorder! lol) in the garage so I can play many of my old classical music tapes when I am out in the garden. I truly do loose all track of time, as you do I am sure. You certainly have created tremendous beauty in you lovely gardens!
      My very best to you,
      Felecia
